Final disposal of bank panel lawyers’ petition on July 16
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: Justice K. Mohan Ram on Wednesday posted for final disposal on July 16 petitions by two bank panel lawyers, one challenging the dismissal of his discharge petition by a lower court and the other seeking to quash criminal proceedings against him.
The CBI had cited them as accused in the charge sheets in two separate cases relating to allegations against them while giving legal opinion as panel lawyers of nationalised banks. While one lawyer challenged the dismissal of the petition seeking discharge from the case, the other sought quashing of the proceedings against him. The CBI Special Public Prosecutor, N. Chandrasekaran, had already taken notice in both the cases and filed the counter in one.
When the matter came up, advocates associations sought to implead themselves on the ground that panel lawyers were discharging their functions by looking into the documents furnished to them but they had been unnecessarily implicated as accused in the cases. They also said that no lawyer would be able to discharge their functions as panel lawyers under such circumstances. The CBI took notice.
Later, the Judge posted the cases for final disposal on July 16.
