Karachi: A dapper opening batsman, during Imran Khan’s halcyon days as captain, Mohsin Khan has often failed to get the credit he deserved. The statistics of 2709 runs from 48 Tests never did justice to a man who scored a double century at Lord’s and notched up 149 at Adelaide and 153 at Melbourne. Any reference to Mohsin is always linked to he being Mudassar Nazar’s consistent opening partner. “Yes we had our time and were respected, maybe just below Greenidge and Haynes,” Mohsin said. “Our team from 1981 to 1987 that won matches everywhere was the greatest team we have ever had and I was privileged to be part of it. “We had a lot of great players in that team but it was a team with a capital ‘T’. We have had great players later too — Akram, Waqar and Inzamam — but they were not part of great teams,” Mohsin said. Career in showbizAny regrets about the way his career ended in 1986? “I never crib. There was dirty politics during that phase and I don’t even want to talk about that. I had to move on and did that but I have had my fill playing for almost 10 years for Pakistan. I then moved to Bombay and acted in films for five years and got back home and did more films and television here, that’s almost a 15-year career in showbiz,” Mohsin said. Mohsin, who is now Sindh Cricket’s regional general manager, lights up when asked about India-Pakistan matches. “We have had great matches. Mohinder Amarnath was like my brother but that was off the field but on the field, well I don’t want to say anything. All I can say was that it was intense.” — Principal Correspondent
