Thiruvananthapuram: The police have decided to intervene effectively to prevent the hartal called by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and allied organisations from affecting life in any manner. Director-General of Police Raman Srivastava said here on Wednesday that the Superintendents of Police in the districts and City Police Commissioners had been asked to take steps to ensure normality. He said the police would not allow hartal supporters to indulge in violence. The force would create an atmosphere which would ensure a sense of security among people and make them go about their work. Help would be provided for enabling schools, offices and commercial establishments to function. Protection would be provided to vehicle owners and employees to ensure transport facilities. All help would be provided to those who did not bow to the threats connected with the hartal and went about their work. Any citizen was free to contact the police stations, the control rooms or senior police officers over phone in this connection. Mr. Srivastava sought the sincere cooperation of everyone in the attempt being made by the police to prevent the hartal from affecting life in any manner by the mobilisation of the entire force.
