BANGALORE: Four persons assaulted an 81-year-old and robbed him of cash and valuables in J.P. Nagar 1st Phase on Tuesday night. Mr. Subramani, a retired Chief Engineer from Gujarat, stays with his wife Lalitha (67) and daughter Jayashree (50), a doctor in Kidwai Institute of Oncology. The three have been living in a single-storied house in 14th Cross, 28th Main Road of J.P. Nagar, for more than a decade. Around 1 a.m. Tuesday, four men broke into their house. On hearing the noise, Ms. Lalitha came out of her room. They snatched the keys to the cupboard and the intruders removed Rs. 6,000 in cash, 50 gm of gold ornaments and 750 grams of silver articles. The four then went to the first floor where Mr. Subramani who started to shout. The men hit him on his face and hand and tied him to a chair. As they were searching his room, they heard Dr. Jayashree calling neighbours for help. On hearing this, the robbers fled. Dr. Jayashree then took her father to a nearby hospital where he was given first aid. The police said the robbers were aged around 30 and spoke Kannada. The victims could not identify the assailants. The police said they were working on the clues that showed involvement of a local gang. ProtestThe death of a 30-year-old woman because of the alleged negligence by medical staff led to a protest in front of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP) Referral Hospital in Sriramapuram on Wednesday. The police said Laxmibai, a worker residing in Electronics City, came to the hospital to undergo tubectomy. During the surgical procedure, she developed complications and was referred to the M.S. Ramaiah hospital where she died on Wednesday. Her relatives staged a protest seeking action against the doctor, who conducted the procedure. The police have registered a case against the BBMP doctor. SuicideAn 18-year-old girl committed suicide at the KSRP Quarters in Koramangala on Wednesday. The police said Mahadevaiah, constable, was undergoing treatment in St. John’s Hospital. On Wednesday, when his wife returned home from the hospital, she found her daughter Shruti hanging from a ceiling fan. Man stabbedAn autorickshaw driver was allegedly stabbed by two persons at Shastri Nagar in Tyaragrajanagar police station limits on Wednesday. The incident occurred when the victim took the two persons to task for urinating on the pavement. The police said Venugopal Yadav (24) was allegedly attacked by Guru and Karthik. The driver is being treated in hospital. The police have arrested Guru. Karthik is absconding.
