J&K Government’s move to cancel land for Amarnath shrine resented

BHUBANESWAR: The workers of Bharatiya Janata Party and Vishwa Hindu Parishad on Thursday observed a two-hour bandh against the Jammu and Kashmir Government’s decision to cancel the land allotted to the Amarnath shrine.

The agitating workers of the two organisations blocked traffic at various locations from 8 am to 10 am and raised slogans against J&K Chief Minister Gulam Nabi Azad.

They demanded that the land allotted to the shrine be given back showing respect to the sentiments of the Hindus.

The BJP and VHP workers, however, did not resort to any violence and observed the bandh as a token to avoid the wrath of the thousands of devotees who were on their way to Puri for Friday’s Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath.

The activists, who stopped only the commercial vehicles during the two-hour bandh, spared the passenger vehicles.

The VHP held a meeting in the city where several leaders criticised the J&K Government for its stand on the allotment of land for the Amarnath shrine.

The leaders said that they would continue their agitation against the J&K Government’s decision on the issue.
