Ministry to launch awareness programmes in 450 villages

Bangalore: Kannada Development Authority Chairman “Mukhyamantri” Chandru has urged the Union Government to facilitate the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Department of Kannada and Culture for informational-cultural programmes with focus on the development of Kannada.

Mr. Chandru was speaking after inaugurating a workshop on “Development Communication” for cultural troupes, organised by the Regional Centre of the Song and Drama Division of the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, here.

The Ministry is all set to launch 3,000 awareness programmes in 450 villages across the State for the benefit of those practising and propagating various cultural art forms in the current year, including programmes on the overall development of Kannada along with the scheduled awareness programmes on issues such as the RTI Act, Bharat Nirman and prevention of AIDS would benefit the State and the Centre, Mr. Chandru said.

Creating infrastructure for holding informational-cultural programmes on a large-scale is the responsibility of the Centre and the State Governments. But it is up to the artistes, singers and dancers to make the programmes successful, Mr. Chandru said.

The former Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University M.S. Thimmappa presided over the inaugural session.
