Guwahati: Suspected members All-Kamatapur Liberation Front (AKLF), a lesser known outfit, abducted Ajay Kumar, senior engineer of a private construction company, and a contractor from Assam’s Kokrajhar district on Wednesday night. They were engaged in the construction of the East West Corridor National Highway. Kokrajhar District Superintendent of Police Arabinda Kalita told The Hindu the incident happened around 7 p.m. at a place between Karigaon and Serfanguri. The company told the police that the abductors, identifying themselves as AKLF militants, called up on Thursday morning and said they had kidnapped the two. Mr. Kalita said police escorts were provided to the company officials but those abducted did not avail it. A search operation was launched by the Kokrajhar and Chirang police. Troops of the Army’s Red Horns Division apprehended a cadre of the ULFA in lower Assam’s Baksa district early on Thursday.
