Held for murder attempt

VILLUPURAM: The police on Thursday arrested Selvaganapathi (42) of Vanur on charges of molestation and attempt to murder a woman field officer of a private insurance company.
The police said the woman had requested Selvaganapathi to join an insurance scheme. He asked her to come with him on his two-wheeler to Pathukannu near Puducherry on the pretext of getting the premium payment from a friend. However, en route Selvaganapathi halted the bike and tried to outrage the modesty of the woman. When she raised an alarm, he tried to strangulate her . When the woman fell unconsciousness, Selvaganapathi doused her with petrol and set her on fire. She suffered minor burns.
