Taking stock: High Court Judge S.R. Bannurmath overseeing preparations for the inauguration of the Circuit Bench building in Dharwad on Thursday. DHARWAD: Karnataka High Court Judge S.R. Bannurmath has said that the inauguration of the Circuit Bench on Water and Land Management Institute (WALMI) premises, near here, on Friday will be a historic event. He was speaking to presspersons on Thursday after monitoring preparations for inauguration of the Circuit Bench. Chief Justice of India K.G. Balakrishnan and Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa will be among those who will attend the function. Expressing satisfaction over the preparations made for the inaugural ceremony, Justice Bannurmath hoped that the Circuit Bench would function effectively and meet the aspirations of the people of the region. Mr. Bannurmath said that all the facilities available at the Principal Bench of the High Court in Bangalore would be made available at the Circuit Benches too. As many as 574 employees would report for duty at the Circuit Benches at Dharwad and Gulbarga, which would be functioning five days a week, he said. Additional Registrar General of the High Court B.A. Patil said that 22,000 pending cases pertaining to the eight districts that come under its purview had been transferred to the Dharwad Circuit Bench. Law books worth Rs. 25 lakh had been purchased for the Circuit Bench library in Dharwad, he said. Justice Bannurmath and Mr. B.A. Patil, who visited the bench premises, were accompanied by president of the Dharwad Bar Association B.D. Hiremath, executive engineer of the Public Works Department Chandrashekhar Yeligar and others.
