Probe likely into ‘lapses’ by Kumaraswamy

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Thursday hinted that his Government might order an inquiry in to the commissions and omissions of his predecessor and friend-turned-foe, H.D. Kumaraswamy of the Janata Dal (Secular).

“A decision on this would be taken in the Cabinet and the lapses, wherever they were, brought out,” he told a group of journalists here. However he refused to elaborate.

Asked whether he would lead and develop Karnataka by taking Gujarat as a model, he said, “Our model is A.B. Vajpayee (former Prime Minister). Atalji is our ideal.”

The Chief Minister denied that he was trying to entice some MLAs from the Opposition camps to stabilise his Government. There was no threat to his Government, and he was comfortable and would complete his five-year term.

Lok Sabha polls

To a question, Mr. Yeddyurappa said the BJP combine, which won 18 of the 28 Lok Sabha seats during the 2004 polls in the State, had set a target of winning at least 25 seats in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. The party would also try to finalise the candidates as early as possible.

Later in the day Mr. Yeddyurappa met BJP president Rajnath Singh and discussed how the strategies adopted by the BJP combine in the recent Assembly elections could be continued for the Lok Sabha elections too.
