20 killed as bus crashes into tree

DEHRA DUN: Twenty persons were killed and 29 injured when the speeding bus they were travelling in from Haldwani to Kashipur in Nainital district crashed into a tree at Garhku on the Bajpur- Kaladhungi road on Thursday.

Expressing anguish , Chief Minister B.C. Khanduri has sanctioned an ex gratia relief of Rs.50,000 to the next of kin of those killed, Rs.25,000 each to the seriously injured and Rs.5,000 each to those with minor injuries, said an official spokesman. A magisterial enquiry has been ordered into the tragedy.
