“Radio English” scheme for schools
Staff Reporter
TIRUCHI: Rural students in all government primary schools in the State will soon feel quite comfortable with conversing freely in English on a par with their urban counterparts in English medium schools. The ‘Radio English’ scheme envisaged under Sarva Siksha Abhiyan seeks to integrate technology into the learning process to infuse interest among the students to acquire communication skills. The State Government has made a provision in its Budget to provide all the government schools with a television set, a VCD player and a table, according to Education department officials. Using these, the primary school students are to be exposed to the common English usages through CDs supplied to them on various communication modules on a periodic basis. Under the scheme, 125 Block Resource Teachers were on Thursday sensitised to the approach of implementation. Chief Educational Officer – SSA, Amuthavalli, dwelt on the approach. The BRTs will train the primary school teachers on the approach in the coming weeks.
