Action against principal sought for caning boy

Special Correspondent

TAMBARAM: A Standard X student was allegedly caned by his school principal for reportedly deflating another student’s bicycle tyre, in Selaiyur near Tambaram on Thursday.

The boy’s parents lodged a complaint at the Selaiyur police station, seeking action against the principal, who punished their son for a mistake he had not committed.

The police said S. Gangadharan (16) was standing outside the school premises, sharpening a pencil.

Another student had complained to the school principal that someone deflated his bicycle tyre, only a while ago.

According to Shantaraman, Gangadharan’s father and cab driver, the principal came to the spot and mistook the boy standing near the bicycle for the culprit.

He allegedly caned Gangadharan on his hand and legs.

Shantaraman told reporters that his son was severely injured and his limbs were swollen. The incident took place soon after school hours.
