BJP charges police with strong-arm tactics

HYDERABAD: The city unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has charged the police of strong-arm tactics against its activists when they were participating in the protest demonstrations here on Thursday.
At a press conference, city chief Ch. Ramachandra Reddy, former Deputy Mayor G. Subash Chanderji, senior leaders B. Bal Reddy, B. Venkat Reddy and others accused the police of using excessive force on its cadre when they undertaking a “peaceful demonstrations” in different parts. The action programme was part of the BJP’s nationwide protest against the Jammu and Kashmir government for withdrawing the land allotted to the Amarnath Shrine Board. Mr. Reddy also blamed the Majlis party for attacking its activists with “swords and roads” without any provocation at Abids against the cadre.
Filing cases
“Two of its MLAs instigated a mob to attack our men mercilessly while the police was a mute witness to the incident,” the BJP leaders alleged. And the police, instead of arresting the mob with weapons, had filed cases against the party activists.
The BJP has decided to take up a week long protest programme to sensitise the people about the J&K incidents.
