AIADMK candidate’s election upheld

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has upheld the election of the AIADMK candidate from the Mettupalayam Assembly constituency in the 2006 election. O.K. Chinnaraj of the AIADMK was declared elected in the election.

In his petition, B. Arunkumar of DMK contended that the Returning Officer had committed procedural lapses with regard to postal ballots.

He had acted in favour of the then ruling AIADMK.

Justice Prabha Sridevan said the petitioner had not proved the allegation. There was no irregularity in the postal ballot polling, the Judge said and dismissed the petition. — Special Correspondent
