Bandh call evokes little response in West Bengal

KOLKATA: The nationwide bandh called by the Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday in protest against the cancellation of the order on allotment to the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board had little impact in West Bengal but for some disruption in train services and traffic dislocation. Some shops in the wholesale market in Burrabazar here remained closed.

The State BJP leadership claimed that though the bandh evoked a mild response here, it affected normal life in other parts of the State.

State unit general secretary Rahul Sinha was among those arrested for obstructing traffic.

Train services in both the Eastern and South Eastern Railways were affected along certain stretches where bandh supporters squatted on the railway tracks, railway officials said.
