Bangalore: The world famous Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath, attended by lakhs of devotees every year in Puri, will be celebrated on July 4, under the aegis of Shree Jagannath Temple Trust in Bangalore.

The journey will begin from Shree Jagannath Temple at Agara and proceed through HSR Layout, with the divine chariot carrying Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadr. Beginning with a puja at 11 a.m. at the Jagannath Temple at Agara, which is still under construction, the Rath Yatra will begin at 4 p.m. with the pulling of the chariot.

In between the there will be Pahandi – the ushering of the deities to the chariot followed by Chhera Panhara, the ritual sweeping. The ritual sweeping is an important part of the celebration, where the ground is swept by the Gajapati King of Puri with a golden broom before the chariot is pulled, which will be taken on by N.K. Jena, senior-most member of the trust. Governor Rameshwar Thakur and Muzrai Minister S.N. Krishnaiah Shetty will join the celebration, initiating the pulling of the chariot.
