Police directed to register case against realtor

For allegedly duping hundreds of innocent investors

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Thursday directed the Delhi police to register a case against a local realtor for allegedly duping hundreds of innocent investors of crores of rupees by accepting advance money and promising to provide land to them in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab.

Justice S.L. Bhyana ordered registration of the case against Devendra Aggarwal on a bunch of petitions by some of the investors submitting that the Economic Offences Wing of the Delhi police had so far taken no action on their complaints against the culprit.

Mr. Justice Bhyana also directed the police to attach properties of Aggarwal if he evaded arrest.

Another Bench of the Court had declared Aggarwal and his accomplice in the racket, Vikas Singh, proclaimed offenders in May.

The real estate company had booked plots in the name of the duped investors on payment of advance money. The accused had also shown them the plots. However, the investors later found that they had been cheated by the realtors when there was an undue delay in handing over possession of the plots to them and prevarication on the realtors’ part when the investors enquired about the project.

The investors then filed FIRs with the police charging the two realtors with cheating them.

A Single-Judge Bench of the Court had earlier granted interim bail to the two accused and directed them to repay the booking amounts to the complainants. However, the Court had later cancelled their bail when the prosecution informed it that the accused had failed to comply with the High Court orders.

The accused had later filed fresh petitions in the Court seeking regular bail, but the Court had rejected their bail pleas and asked them to surrender before the trial court. But they had absconded.
