PALAKKAD: Palakkad Railway Divisional Manager A.K. Harit unveiled YP 2204, a heritage steam locomotive, at the Olavakkode Divisional Office, here on Friday. This meter gauge, passenger-class locomotive was imported from Germany in 1954 and used in Guntakal division of South Central Railway till 1994. After 40 years in service, it served its final years to haul excursion trains between Mysore and Nanjangud, a package that covered the Bandipur wildlife sanctuary. It has a coal capacity of 9.65-tonnes and water capacity of 13,600 litres. The maximum permissible speed was 75 km per hour. Additional Divisional Manager U.F. Kunjur and Divisional Commercial Manager M.D. Valsamma were present.
