Water released from Krishnagiri reservoir

Krishnagiri: Water was released from the Krishnagiri reservoir project (KRP) at Periyamuthur near here on Friday for the first crop. According to Collector Santhosh Babu, water will be released from the left and right main canals from July 4 for a period of 150 days to benefit 9,012 acres.
Water will be released for four days in a week based on the water level in the dam and monsoon. Periyamuthur, Sundekuppam, Thimmapuram, Sendehalli, Thallihalli, Kalvehalli, Gundalpatti, Mittahalli, Errahalli, Penneswarammadam, Kaveripattinam, Balekuli, Marichettihalli, Nagojanahalli, Janaparahalli and Paiyur panchayats will benefit because of the release.
Presently the water level in the dam is 49.80 feet with a capacity of 1421.06 mcft. The Collector appealed to the public to make judicious use of the available water in cooperation with the Public Works Department. MP E.G. Sugavanam and MLAs T. Senguttuvan and D. Meghanathan were among those present.
