MANGALORE: The trade unions representing about 1,000 port workers and 750 dock workers at the New Mangalore Port have served a strike notice on the Port Management in response to a call given by the All India Port and Dock Workers’ Federation. They plan to go on strike on July 16. Federation joint secretary Ramakrishna Gouda said here in a statement that the strike was to press for the demands such as implementation of the understanding reached at the level of a Bipartite Wage Negotiating Committee (BWNC), merger of 50 per cent dearness allowance with basic payment, filling the vacant posts, and for implementation of the different reports submitted by various committees.
