dated July 5, 1958: Development programmes

The President of India, in his capacity as the Visitor of the Indian Institute of Science, has passed orders on the main recommendations made by the Quinquennial Reviewing Committee whose chairman was Dr. J.C. Ghosh. The Institute has been requested to take necessary steps to give effect to the orders and also to submit to the Ministry of Scientific Research and Cultural Affairs at an early date detailed proposals arising out of the decisions contained in the Visitor’s Orders. It has been pointed out that the the institute might undertake programmes which had a direct bearing on the requirements of the Five-Year Plan. In view of the difficulties of foreign exchange, programmes involving construction of buildings and purchase of foreign equipment might be deferred, except where such programmes were recommended by the All India Council of Technical Education.
