Poultry industry hails decision to ban maize export

Special Correspondent

NAMAKKAL: The poultry industry of the Namakkal Egg Zone thanked the Union Government for banning the export of maize till October 15.

The industry, for quite some time, has been demanding the ban on maize and soya meal, the major ingredients for poultry feed, since forward trading and hoarding had jacked up the prices.

A delegation of poultry farmers of Namakkal Zone of Egg Co-ordination Committee (NECC) also met the Union Minister of Agriculture Sharad Pawar in New Delhi on June 30 and placed their demands. The Minister assured them to do the needful. He told the delegation that he would look into the possibility of extending an interest subvention of 8 per cent on bank loans availed by the poultry farmers.

Prices to come down

Thanking the Minister for his initiative, the NECC Chairman, Dr. P. Selvaraj said that the ban would bring down the prices of maize in the local market.
