Tearful adieu to Greyhounds constable

KARIMNAGAR: The Karimnagar district police and the residents of Godavarikhani town bid a tearful adieu with full State honours to Greyhounds constable Parupalli Kiran Kumar (23) on the shores of river Godavari on the outskirts of Godavarikhani town on Friday.

Kiran Kumar, was one among those killed by the Maoists naxalites attack on the launch carrying the Greyhounds personnel in Sileru river on Andhra-Orissa borders on Sunday. His body was retrieved on Thursday and arrived in Karimnagar district on Friday afternoon.

Since the attack on the launch carrying the Greyhounds personnel in Visakhapatnam district, the relatives and well-wishers of Kiran had performed pujas for his well-being and safety. On Thursday, they received a rude shock about his death following the recovery of his body from the launch.

A pall of gloom descended at the residence of Kiran in Markandeyanagar colony in Godavarikhani with relatives and others consoling the bereaved family members. Kiran’s father a retired employee of Singareni, Ramulu and mother Rajavva wailed inconsolably. He had three brothers.

The relatives, local residents and others participated in the funeral procession. Superintendent of Police Y. Gangadhar, Godavarikhani ASP Tarun Joshi and other police personnel placed wreaths .

At the Eight incline colony in Godavarikhani town, the police and residents took out a massive peace rally denouncing the naxalite attack on the Greyhounds personnel.

The police cultural troupe members participated in the procession by lauding the services of personnel to the society.
