High capacity gypsum plant for Alwar

Special Correspondent

JAIPUR: A new gypsum plant with an annual capacity of 10 million square metres has been inaugurated at Kushkhera in Alwar district of Rajasthan. State Industries Minister Digamber Singh inaugurated the plant, which also houses a technical training centre on the campus.

Lafarge Boral Gypsum India (LBGI), a joint venture between Lafarge, a subsidiary of the French building material company Lafarge, and Boral, an Australian construction material group, has invested Rs.100 crore in the plant.

Strategic Alliance

“The project marks the beginning of a strategic partnership between Lafarge and the Rajasthan Government,” said Dr. Singh. The tie-up would potentially translate into more investments akin to the Rs.1,000 crore cement project that has already started in the State. The state-of-the-art plant is environment-friendly and will bring value addition to the gypsum mined in Rajasthan. The gypsum boards manufactured at the plant would be 100 per cent recyclable substitute to other construction material.

The technical training centre at the plant is specially designed to impart skills on LaGyp™ gypsum board systems through skill development of basic manpower from the lower income groups.

“India with a sophisticated construction market and immense need for new commercial and residential spaces holds a strong potential for development of gypsum business. The plant at Khushkhera illustrates our wish to provide the Indian market with most innovative solutions,” said Lafarge Boral Gypsum India CEO Olivier Chaudet.
