HYDERABAD: Sports Training Centre (Chennai) recorded a hard-fought 3-2 win over STC (Bangalore) in the south zone inter-SAI STC hockey tournament for boys at Begumpet Police Stadium here on Friday. The winner was trailing 0-2 at the break. Bangalore struck twice in the first-half through Sachin Undi and M.G. Poonacha. But, Chennai fought back after the break to strike thrice through Yuvaraj, Hyder Ali and Amruth to emerge winner. In another match, STC (Secunderabad) defeated STC (Kollam) 2-0 with Ashok Reddy converting a penalty corner in the 21st minute of the first-half and Rama Krishna scoring a field goal in the 56th minute. Ganesh scalps fiveT. K. Ganesh Kumar’s five-wicket haul helped ACA Secretary’s XI restrict ACA President’s XI to 189 in the three-day ACA Central Zone U-19 selection match in Vijayawada on Friday. At stumps, ACA Secretary’s XI was tottering at 59 for four. The scores: ACA President’s XI 189 in 72.3 overs (Rishi Choudary 43, T.K. Ganesh Kumar five for 32) vs. ACA Secretary’s XI 59 for four in 15 overs (Rishi Choudary three for 21). Easy for Little FlowerLittle Flower College (Uppal) defeated Vignan College 4-1 in the Sachdev Sports Cup inter-college football tournament at Trimulgherry grounds in Hyderabad. Robin netted a brace and Ankit and Alloysius Jesuraj scored a goal each for the winner. Richard scored the only goal for Vignam. In another match, Muffakham Jah College recorded a 5-1 win over Narayana College with Abu Baker, Hafiz, Pasha, Sayeed and Sohail being the scorers for the winner. Nishanth reduced the margin for the loser. Beach volleyball tournamentSome of the top World-ranked men’s and women’s teams from 32 countries will take part in the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB)-Chennai Challenger beach volleyball championships to be held at the Marina Beach, Chennai, from July 17 to 20.
Of the half-a-dozen courts in the proposed playing area, two will be for warm-up, three for regular matches, apart from a centre court. Meanwhile, four teams from Andhra Pradesh will take part in the selection circuit matches in preparation for the FIVB-Chennai Challenger beach volleyball championship, Ramnath said.
