Tribal troupes lead yatra at Koraput

Correspondent

KORAPUT: Young dance troupes from Durua community added more flavour to this year’s car festival at Koraput on Friday. Boys and girls dressed in their traditional costumes led the sevayats, who were carrying the idols of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra to the chariot while performing the Pahandi rituals from the main temple.

Other tribal troupes also performed Dhemsa, Gadaba, Kondh and Lathi dances in front of the chariot while thousands of people pulled the chariot to Sri Gundicha temple. Dasi Nayak, the tribal village head from Kumbha village, performed ‘Cherapahara’ on the chariot.

While District Collector honoured some village heads, officials, MLAs and other dignitaries who took part in the celebration. A poster on Sabara Srikhetra prepared by Paresh Rath, was released by Pyarimohan Mahapatra, MP, on the Jagannath temple premises.
