JAIPUR: In an apparent move to woo the Rajput community ahead of the Rajasthan Assembly elections, Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Devi Singh Bhati was inducted into the Vasundhara Raje Cabinet on Friday. Governor S. K. Singh administered the oath of office and secrecy to Mr. Bhati, a Rajput strongman, at Raj Bhavan in the presence of the Chief Minister. Mr. Bhati’s induction comes at a crucial time when the Rajasthan Assembly elections are barely five months away and is viewed by political observers here as an attempt to garner Rajput votes. Mr. Bhati, once a BPJ rebel, had returned to the party fold in September last year. He had won the 2003 Assembly elections from Kolyat in Bikaner on the platform of Social Justice Front floated by him. He was not inducted into the Cabinet earlier as differences had cropped up within the BJP’s state unit over his return to the party fold. “I will prove my mettle, whatever portfolio is offered and work with full responsibility,” Mr. Bhati said after taking the oath. - PTI
