CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Government has amended its compassionate appointments policy giving major relief to the families of deceased government employees. According to an official spokesman, it has been decided that in a case where the deceased government employee leaves behind his/her minor children who are studying at the time of death of the employee and are not qualified for a employment in the government and the spouse is not in a position to join a government job, a dependent child would be allowed to apply for compassionate appointment by the Competent Authority within a period of one year from the date of attaining the age and qualification by the child of deceased for Group ’C’ and ’D’ appointment. The spokesman said it had come to the notice of the Chief Minister that many families fail to get compassionate appointment as their children were minor at the time of death of the government employee and so the CM had ordered a review of the policy. He said that on humanitarian consideration it had also been decided as a special one-time measure to extend this benefit to all old deserving cases. - PTI
