Manmohan to meet Bush

Sandeep Dikshit

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will visit Japan next week, where he will meet U.S. President George Bush and other world leaders on the sidelines of the G-8 summit.

Briefing newspersons, Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon did not disclose what the leaders would discuss, but said the Government would like to go ahead with the civil nuclear deal “as soon as we can.”

Declining to set any timeframe, Mr. Menon said “we will inform you” as soon as the government approaches the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for signing a safeguards agreement.
