Revised MSP comes into immediate effect

CHENNAI: The State government has decided to give immediate effect to the revised minimum support price of paddy. This follows the Union government’s order that the MSP for 2008-2009 would come into force immediately, according to an order issued on Friday.

Originally, the State government said its order on the new MSP would take effect from the Kuruvai season, which would begin on September 15. The revised rates were Rs.1,050 per quintal for Grade ‘A’ paddy and Rs.1,000 per quintal for common variety of paddy. — Special Correspondent
