Phone facility for jail inmates

Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister for Home and Tourism Kodiyeri Balakrishnan commissioned a coin-booth telephone facility at the Central Prison, Poojapura, on Friday. The Minister said the government wanted to improve the facilities in the prison and make it less crowded. “We want to ensure that those who return from here lead their lives as good citizens and never indulge in crime again.” The Central prison, Poojappura, is the second central jail in the State after Viyyur to get the facility. Two coin-booth telephones have been installed on the ground floor of the watch-tower.

The time limit for each inmate has been restricted to five minutes. To prevent misuse, the conversation of the inmates will be monitored.
