Rehabilitation package for Moolampilly evictees

KOCHI: The ten families whose land was acquired under the Land Acquisition Act at Moolamppilly for the proposed Vallarpadam International Container Transhipment Terminal will also be included in the rehabilitation package, said S. Sarma, Minister for Fisheries and Registration.

This decision was taken at the meeting convened to take a final decision on land acquisition issues at the Guest House here on Friday.

Representatives of evictees also agreed to hand over the documents including title deeds to the district administration by Monday. Another meeting will be held at the District Collector M. Beena’s camp office on Saturday at 7.30 a.m. An official press release by the district administration said that 50 more cents will be filled up at Moolamppilly Island along with already identified 30 cents to rehabilitate evictees. The Minister instructed land acquisition officials to complete the works including land fill within a fortnight.

Those displaced from Cheranalloor and Eloor villages agreed to hand over land within a week. As requested by those displaced, the Minister contacted George Sleeba, managing director of FACT to check whether temporary accommodation is available at FACT staff quarters. The latter consented to accommodate evictees on temporary basis and asked for formal request from the district administration.
