Seeking action: Freedom fighter H.S. Doreswamy speaking at a protest organised by the Save Bangalore Committee in Bangalore on Friday. Bangalore: A group of citizens held a demonstration here on Friday demanding that the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) take steps to free the city from the mosquito menace and stop the spread of chikungunya and communicable diseases. Participating in the demonstration held under the banner of Save Bangalore Committee, freedom fighter H.S. Doreswamy said: “The BBMP should immediately wake up from its slumber and take preventive measures on a war-footing.” H.G. Jayalakshmi, general secretary of the All-India Mahila Samskruthika Sanghatane, said the immediate steps to be taken by the BBMP were fogging and fumigation to check mosquitoes. The demonstrators alleged that the BBMP, instead of taking preventing measures, was discussing the matter with a committee. They demanded that the authorities clean water bodies, which are the breeding places for mosquitoes, besides educating the people in all the areas instead of creating awareness after the spread of the disease in a particular area.
