Bangalore: Even as Health authorities claim that they are doing their best to contain the spread of chikungunya to new areas, a few confirmed cases have been reported from Koramangala, Mahalakshmi Layout, Yeshwanthpur, Hosahalli, Magadi Road and Kamakshipalya in the jurisdictional BBMP referral hospitals and at the K.C. General Hospital. Though BBMP Commissioner S. Subramanya denied there was an outbreak of dengue in the city after a private hospital attributed the death of seven-year-old Monisha (who had survived a strangulation attempt by her mother) to dengue, another case with severe symptoms of the viral disease has been reported at the Lady Curzon and Bowring Hospital on Thursday, hospital sources said. Five of the 55 cases reported at the K.C. General Hospital in the last three days have tested positive for chikungunya. Hospital Medical Superintendent M. Vishwa Aradhya told The Hindu that 25 more cases were reported on Friday and three patients had been admitted. The government-run Victoria Hospital has also been receiving several cases with symptoms of chikungunya. “We get three-four cases with symptoms of the disease every day. Though none has been confirmed, we are keeping a watch. Unless the blood samples test positive for the disease, we cannot term it chikungunya,” hospital Medical Superintendent Balagangadhar Tilak said.
