Constable dies in freak accident

BANGALORE: A City Armed Reserve head constable died in a freak accident when he went to inspect a body lying on the railway track in Chickpet traffic police station limits on Friday.

Kempaiah (50), a driver with the CAR headquarters, was asked to ferry the body of a person related to a police officer. When Mr. Kempaiah was driving past the Binny Mill Cross, he saw a group of people near the adjacent railway track clustered round a body.Parking his van, Kempaiah squeezed himself between two parked tipper trucks to reach the railway track. One of the tipper trucks had broken down, and drivers were attempting to transfer the consignment to the other. Even as Kempaiah was moving in between the trucks, the drivers moved the vehicles closer, crushing him.

Girl killed

A four-year-old girl died on the spot when a car hit her in Rajajinagar police station limits on Friday. The police gave the name of the girl as Sindhu, daughter of Basavaraj, a KSRTC driver and resident of Maruthinagar in Nandini Layout.

The incident occurred when Sindhu was playing near her home. The car belonging to the neighbour was reversing when the girl came under its wheels. The police have arrested driver Rudresh and registered a case.

Arrested

The Kalasipalya police arrested four persons and recovered Rs. 10 lakh worth gold jewellery that the accused had allegedly burgled from a jewellery shop on Magadi Road on June 10.

The police identified them as Vinobalan (20), Satish Kumar alias Palli (20), Vithun (20) and Naveen (25), all residents of K.P. Agrahara, Magadi Road.
