Staff Reporter

MALAPPURAM: Calicut University has launched a platform for its alumni of the main and subsidiary campuses. Vice-Chancellor Anwar Jahan Zuberi inaugurated the alumni body named Calicut University Campus Alumni Association (CUCA) at a function on Saturday. Dozens of old students from different parts of the State attended the maiden meeting.

Inaugurating the meeting, Prof. Zuberi sought constructive involvement of the alumni in the development of the university. She described the alumni body, formed on the 40th year of the university’s formation, as a forum to re-establish one’s identity.

Prof. Zuberi said that the Calicut University Campus Alumni Association could do a lot to address the manpower shortage faced by the university. The Vice-Chancellor lauded the efforts of the CUCA to launch a web site of its own with a link to the university portal.

T.M. Vijayan, president of CUCA, welcomed the gathering. C. Gopinathan Pillai, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, delivered the keynote address.

T.M. Vijayan and N. Aravindan were elected president and secretary respectively of the CUCA. The other office-bearers are Reena Anilkumar and U.V. Rajagopal (vice-presidents); Baby Shari, P.V. Valsaraj and E. Lohitadakshan (joint secretaries); and N. Sreekumar (treasurer).
