BHUBANESWAR: City-based Bakul Foundation, that runs an exclusive library for children, has announced to host a series of story-telling sessions for school students by foreigners. Commencing on Sunday at 5 p.m. on its premises at 16, Satya Nagar here, the weekly event would continue further in a similar manner through all Sundays, Foundation director Sujit Mohapatra told The Hindu. “Each Sunday would feature a foreigner from a different country who would tell stories from that country and about that country. It would be interactive in nature that would help the children to have first hand knowledge about the culture, tradition, history, geography and literature of a nation,” he hoped. The programme has aptly been christened as ‘Once Upon a Time- Stories and Storytellers from across the Globe’, informed Mr.Sujit. The inaugural session on Sunday would feature an American girl - Colette Liddell - who is a student of health science and is in the State for a fortnight. The next story-tellers would be Cathy Cuadra from Germany on July 13 followed by Su Hyun Kim from Korea on 20th and Nicole Goldstein from England on July 27. All of them are with the UNICEF as internees, said the director. “We have already arranged guests from Ireland, Holland, Belgium, France, Portugal, Italy, Canada, Japan, China, Malaysia, Kenya, Denmark and Turkey to talk to our tiny-tots who are quite excited about the ensuing event”, expressed an equally excited Sujit. The next series would be stories from different parts of India, he hinted. Reading assistanceBakul Children’s Library has just launched offer of regular reading assistance for the children. Every week from Monday to Saturday (from 2 pm to 4.30 pm), expert storytellers Karen and Sonia are helping children in their reading with lots of games and activities apart from dramatised story-telling, the director revealed.
