BHUBANESWAR: The State government on Saturday announced a new agriculture policy with focus on enhancing production and protecting overall interests of the farm community. The policy was given final shape at a high-level meeting that was chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. The policy lays emphasis on supply of quality seeds, use of better technology, irrigation and market linkage for the agricultural produce. The policy also promises more subsidies on agricultural implements and diesel pump sets. According to the policy, one village will be identified in each block for conservation of seeds. Attempts will be made to make technology based seed production, seed multiplication and related farm activities as an industrial activity. According to the policy, intensive training programmes coupled with demonstrations will be organised at all levels on improved cultivation practices. The farmers will be exposed to successful adoption of modern technologies by other farmers inside the district, State and outside the State, and agricultural fairs will be organised in every district.
