BHOPAL: Curfew was relaxed for two hours on Saturday afternoon in 11 police station areas of Indore, which witnessed a fresh round of violence on Friday. Four persons were killed in group clashes during Thursday’s bandh called by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and the Bajrang Dal on the Amarnath Shrine Board issue. The toll has since risen to six. Criminal cases registeredCriminal cases under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code have been registered against three Indore policemen. The police conducted a massive search operation in the city, where a large number of petrol bombs have been seized since Thursday’s bandh. On Friday, State Congress president Suresh Pachouri, who led a protest demonstration here, told a press conference that the Bharatiya Janata Party was trying to politicise the Shrine Board issue. Those at the helm of affairs in the State had created an “anarchy-like situation by sponsoring the bandh.” Mr. Pachouri alleged that the police remained a mute spectator when mobs went berserk. Citing an incident in Satna district, he said a trader committed suicide after he was allegedly beaten up by pro-bandh activists.
