Udhagamandalam: Chennai’s P. Lokesh and Kancheepuram’s J. Mohanapriya clinched the boys’ and girls’ titles respectively in the State sub-junior chess championship here on Saturday. A student of the Velammal MHSS (Chennai), Mohanapriya, who drew against J. Saranya of Thiruvallur, pocketed the title with a round to spare. Ch. Savetha, also from Chennai, finished second with 8.5 points. Lokesh of SBOA MHSS (Chennai), unlike Mohanapriya, had to keep his fingers crossed as he rounded off his assignment with just a draw against Hariharasudhan of Chennai. Dinesh Kumaar of Salem, playing the second board, had a theoretical chance of wresting the title with a win.
