Bryans square off for mixed doubles title

WIMBLEDON: Apart from Venus and Serena Williams, another pair of American siblings will be going against each other in a Wimbledon final: twins Bob and Mike Bryan.

They’ll square off for the mixed doubles title on Sunday, when Mike Bryan and Katarina Srebotnik face Bob Bryan and Samantha Stosur.

“We’re so close, just like (the Williams sisters), and it’s very hard to play against your sibling,” Bob Bryan said. “Monopoly or Risk or one of these board games — we are at each other’s throats. But on the tennis court, we want the best for each other and to support each other.”

The Bryans won the 2006 Wimbledon title together, but have never been opponents in a final at the All England Club.

“It’s going to be a good day — one of the Bryans is going home with the title,” Bob said.

“We share the same bank account, so it’s all good.”

Britain has another young player on whom to pin its Wimbledon hopes.

Laura Robson, still only 14 years old, reached the girls’ final by beating Romana Tabakova of Slovakia 6-2, 7-5, prompting talk that she could be the next great British tennis player.

“I try not to think about it too much,” Robson said. — AP
