Government granting scholarships to students Farmers, who clear loans, provided financial help MAHABUBNAGAR: Under the crop loan-waiver scheme announced by the Union government, as many as 2,68,243 farmers in the district would benefit with a waiver of Rs. 432.67 crore according to district collector V. Usharani. Addressing the bankers and agriculture officials here on Saturday, the collector said that the farmers who got benefit would be issued certificates in the mandal-wise ‘Loan Relief Melas’ to be organized in the district from July 8 to 17. She also informed that over 95,700 big farmers will also get benefit of 25 per cent in their loan or Rs. 20,000 whichever is more. She asked the concerned officials to announce the dates of the melas to be conducted in their areas in advance and to take steps to ensure that concerned legislators and other public representatives participate in them. CertificatesAbout 50,000 farmers will be given certificates in each mandal. He urged the bankers to keep the certificates ready as per the finalised list. She further stated that in the second phase the farmers who have cleared their loans will be provided a financial assistance of Rs. 5,000 as announced by the government. Opening an accountMs. Usharani stated that the government has taken a novel step in the disbursement of scholarships to students. The student is to open an account in the bank and the government will deposit the scholarship amount in the account directly. Project Director DRDA Narsimha Reddy, various bank officers and district officials also participated in the programme.
