HYDERABAD: A programme to control HIV/AIDS among the crew of APSRTC buses will be launched on Monday. The occasion would be marked by signing of an agreement between APSRTC Vice-Chairman and Managing Director V. Dinesh Reddy and A. P. State Aids Control Society (APSACS) Project Director R.V. Chandravadan, the latter told a news conference here on Saturday. Collaborative projectMr. Chandravadan said the collaborative project would target long distance drivers and conductors. There were about 9,500 of them who were considered vulnerable to HIV/AIDS. The technical support team of APSACS had studied and assessed their risky behaviour. He added that the project would be a workplace intervention strategy by APSACS to create awareness among workers. It includes a sensitisation workshop for top management, training of master trainers and the orientation for drivers, conductors and safety instructors at the seven zonal training colleges. Bearing the costThe APSACS would bear the cost of the integrated counselling and testing centres proposed to be set up in the regional hospitals of APSRTC at Tarnaka, Karimnagar and Visakhapatnam. The APSRTC had agreed to create a HIV/AIDS cell in the establishment, Mr. Chandravadan said.
