‘Bring power transmission losses below 10 per cent’
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: With even a one per cent reduction in transmission and distribution losses translating into huge money savings, the PHD Chamber has urged the Delhi Government to ensure that the city’s power distribution companies are able to bring down the T&D loss levels to less than 10 per cent soon.
Following privatisation of the Capital’s power distribution sector in 2002, the Aggregate Technical and Commercial losses in the city between 2002 and 2007 have been reduced from 62 per cent to 25 per cent in BSES-served areas and from 50 per cent to 18 per cent in NDPL areas.
“It is estimated that a one per cent reduction in T&D losses would generate savings of Rs.700 to 800 crore annually.” The PHD Chamber has also suggested that the power distribution companies be urged to provide the current transmission level data on a regular basis and results be posted on their website. This will help involve the public and create awareness.
