Stop step-motherly treatment towards Sainik Farms: Jolly

Staff Reporter

Says it is high time the Delhi Govt. regularised the area

NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from Saket, Vijay Jolly, on Saturday said it was high time Sainik Farms was regularised by the Delhi Government.

Expressing dismay over “step-motherly treatment” meted out to Sainik Farms, Anant Ram Dairy and Mahindru Enclave on the issue of regularisation of unauthorised colonies, Mr. Jolly said the Government had recently announced regularisation of all unauthorised colonies in the city but omitted these colonies from the list of soon-to-be-regularised colonies on “flimsy grounds”.

“The law of the land is equal for all citizens. The Indian Constitution does not allow segregation on the basis of economic disparities. But due to cheap vote bank politics, the Delhi Government has categorised and segregated colonies on the basis of poor and affluent colonies,” he charged.

Spread over 300 acres

Pointing out that Sainik Farms came into existence 38 years ago, the Saket MLA said: “Spread over 300 acres of private land situated in six villages of South Delhi, the entire area has 5,000 residential houses with a population of 40,000. Nearly Rs.5,000 crore has been invested in the area. In the past 10 years the Delhi Government has on numerous occasions promised to regularise it. But it has proved a false promise for its inhabitants,” he added.

Divide-and-rule policy

Charging that the Government was pursuing a policy of divide-and-rule, Mr. Jolly said: “It is a clear case of government discrimination. Sainik Farms along with two other colonies must be treated on par with other unauthorised colonies. The Government should put an end to its discriminatory policy on regularisation of unauthorised colonies.”
