Spreading cheer: Commandant, MRC Brigadier V.P. Kashyap addressing the students from Jammu and Kashmir at Wellington near Udhagamandalam on Friday. Udhagamandalam: Having spent four memorable days in the Blue Mountains thanks to Madras Regimental Centre, thirty one students from Jammu and Kashmir left for Chennai on Friday en route to their native place. Hailing from the militancy affected Mendhar Sector, a remote part of the State, the students belonging to different strata of the society have been having the time of their lives in various parts of South India. The education tour has been facilitated by the Indian Army as part of Operation Sadbhavana, a welfare project launched by it in the far flung border areas of the country. Defence sources told The Hindu that the objective of the tour was to provide an opportunity to the students to interact with the people and acquaint themselves with the culture and traditions of South India. The look on the faces of many of the students spoke volumes of the impact made on them by the people and places south of the Vindhyas. While in the Nilgiris the students visited many places including Sim’s Park, Government Botanical Garden, the Ooty lake and Dodabetta. Interacting with Commandant, MRC Brigadier V.P. Kashyap at Wellington on Friday the students narrated their experiences and recorded their impressions. Expressing the hope that they would make the optimum use of the opportunity provided to them to gain first hand knowledge of life in the South, he urged them to always carry with them the message of peace and harmony. They should share their experiences with their family and friends.
