‘Verdict a blow to education system’

Special Correspondent

Bangalore: The School Development and Monitoring Committee Coordination Forum has described the recent Karnataka High Court verdict on the language policy as a “big blow to the public education system” and has urged the Government to file a review petition in the Supreme Court.

The forum said in a press release that the Government should consider promulgating an Ordinance on the language policy.

The verdict shielded the interests of private players in the name of the Constitution, it said.

“This was unfortunate when the need of the hour was exploring the possibility of common school system on the lines of neighbourhood schools,” the forum said.

The committee members said that they were “shocked and dismayed by the judgment that went against the fundamental tenets of equality and social justice enshrined in the Constitution.” They said the judgment had failed to see the larger picture where private schools were driven by the greed for making money.
