BANGALORE: Several initiatives of the Karnataka Tourism Department, including the proposed cruise tourism and coastal tourism, are likely to figure in the discussion during the visit of a high-level parliamentary estimates committee on Monday. Several MPs and top officials of Union and State Tourism Ministries are expected to participate in the meeting at Brindavan Gardens, near Mysore. Sources in the Tourism Department told The Hindu that important tourism initiatives taken up by the department, including coastal circuit, heritage circuit and Hampi project would be discussed. Sources said Karnataka was expected to seek improved connectivity to Bangalore from places such as Mumbai and Delhi by way of improving train frequencies, which would boost tourism. “Since the National Highways Authority of India and Indian Railways function under the Centre, we would be seeking improvement of the highways in the State, increasing of train frequency and the focus of the meeting would be the last mile connectivity to the tourist destinations,” the sources said. Action planThe meeting would discuss the action plan prepared by the State, shortfall in resources for tourism projects and infrastructure initiatives to improve tourist destinations during the next five years. The Parliamentary Committee is witnessing Maharashtra and Goa.
