Hafed to market organic wheat

Special Correspondent

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Cooperative Supply and Marketing Federation (Hafed) has introduced organic wheat in 25-kg packing. It will also start marketing organic kachchi ghani mustard oil in 500-millilitre bottles from next fortnight, Haryana Agriculture and Cooperation Minister Harmohinder Singh Chatha said here over the weekend.

He said people were increasingly becoming health-conscious and preferring organic food. Initially the wheat would be available at Hafed Retail outlets in Chandigarh and Panchkula.

Sourced from certified organic farms in Haryana, Hafed organic wheat is priced at Rs.525 per bag of 25 kg. Hafed Organic wheat, along with other Hafed consumer products, is also available at concessional rates at the two-day Mango Mela ending in Pinjore near here this Sunday, he added.

Mr. Chatha said Hafed had undertaken group organic certification of farms of 1,320 farmers in Kurukshetra, Karnal and Kaithal districts.
